Het huwelijk van de Londense Doug (Tennant) en Abi (Pike) staat op knappen, maar dat moet geheim blijven voor Dougs vader Gordie (Connolly), die kanker heeft, in een vergevorderd stadium. Dat stil houden is best lastig wanneer Abi, Doug en hun drie kinderen naar Schotland gaan om Gordies verjaardag te vieren. Deze aardige tragikomedie komt een tikje traag op gang, maar blijkt dankzij het frisse script met fijne dialogen en het innemende spel, van Tennant, Connolly, Pike en zeker ook van de jonge acteurs, toch de moeite waard. Bonus: fraaie beelden van het Schotse landschap.
