Planet of the Apes first burst onto the silver screen in 1968 and went on to spawn a science fiction media franchise. Weta Digital contributed visual effects to the latest films in the series: Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and War for the Planet of the Apes - all three released to critical acclaim. Now, Wētā Workshop is proud to launch its own exclusive collectibles, celebrating 50 years of this iconic sci-fi franchise.

Most collectibles projects at Weta Workshop are collaborative: they involve concept design, physical sculpting, digital sculpting, model making, mold making, and painting, to name a few. I really enjoy that process of working together to achieve an incredible final piece.

The Rule of 70 is a mathematical formula used to estimate the doubling time of a growing quantity based on its annual growth rate. It provides a quick way to determine how long it takes for a population or any other quantity to double in size.
Enculturated apes, who underwent extensive language training programs, successfully learned to answer quite complex questions and requests (including question words "who", "what", "when", "where", and "why"), although so far they failed to learn how to ask questions themselves.
The study 'Apes and Agriculture' published in Frontiers in Conservation Science today (9 November, 2023) estimates that between 750,000 and 1,250,000 apes remain, of which some 70% are outside protected areas.
Roughly 9% of all test takers in 2022 received an “extremely well qualified” score of 5. The largest share of test takers—27.4%—received a 4. And 17.5% received a 3.
APES is a tough class, especially being the only AP class you take in 9th grade. Getting a 5 can be daunting, due to the enormous amount of information and interactions you need to memorize.
The ten percent rule states that each trophic level can only give 10% of its energy to the next level. The other 90% is used to live, grow, reproduce and is lost to the environment as heat. All energy pyramids start with energy from the Sun which is transferred to the first trophic level of producers.
The J curve refers to a graph that shows exponential growth in population over time. It starts with a slow increase, followed by a rapid acceleration as the population grows exponentially. Related Terms: Exponential Growth: This term describes the rapid increase in population size over time due to unlimited resources.
The rule of 70 (and 72) comes from the natural log of 2 which is 0.693.. or 69.3%. Basically this is rounded to 70 (or 72) to make doing the math in your head easier. It's not 100% accurate but usually when you are asking about the doubling time of a rate by quick mental estimate, a little error doesn't matter.
The IQ of the average monkey varies greatly depending on the species . Some monkeys , such as the capuchin monkey , have been found to have an IQ equivalent to that of a 2 - 3 year old human child . Other species , like the chimpanzee , have been shown to have an IQ equivalent to that of a 4 - 6 year old human child .
Deforestation has consequences for the environment: soil erosion, loss of biodiversity, climate change, desertification, fragmentation of landscapes … Whether for local or industrial agriculture or infrastructure construction, deforestation is today the main threat to great apes.
Some numerical operations, such as addition, have been demonstrated in many species, including rats and great apes. Representing fractions and fraction addition has been observed in chimpanzees.
Studies have shown that orangutans may be more intelligent when it comes to performing tasks, however, chimpanzees display greater social intelligence.
Standing nearly ten feet tall and weighing up to 660 pounds, the largest great apes to ever live—called Gigantopithecus blacki—roamed modern-day China for nearly two million years.
To give you an idea, according to the College Board's 2021 data, about 53.1% of the students who took the APES exam scored a 3 or higher, which is considered a "passing" score.
If they pass an AP test, they may receive college credit for that subject (in addition to high school credit). But what is a passing AP score? The College Board considers a score of 3 or higher a passing grade. That said, some colleges require a 4 or 5 to award credit.
The ten percent rule states that each trophic level can only give 10% of its energy to the next level. The other 90% is used to live, grow, reproduce and is lost to the environment as heat. All energy pyramids start with energy from the Sun which is transferred to the first trophic level of producers.
As a general guide, though, you can consider roughly more than 70% correct as being in the 5 range, 50-69% for a score of 4, 40-49% for a score of 3, 30-39% for a 2, and below 30% would likely be a 1. Again, these ranges are approximations and can vary by subject and by year.
